You can pack up to 100 pounds of personal items into the trunk of your car at no additional charge.
How Much Car Shipping Cost
As you will see, car shipping costs vary widely from one job to the next. That is because every vehicle is different and so is every route! Generally speaking, the following are some shipping averages for a regular car:
150-200 mile trip: $380-650
Cross-country trip: $1100-1800
That being said, there are several factors that go into the price of car shipping. Let’s take a more detailed look so that you have all the information you need.
Enclosed Shipping vs. Open Shipping
Open shipping involves shipping a car on an open car transport trailer. You’ve seen these large trailers on the road a million times. They are the two-tier, racks towed by tractor trucks you often see filled with cars. There are no walls, roofs, or screens on these trailers to protect a car from the elements. In some scenarios, open shipping of a car can also involve a flat-bed trailer, such as one you might see on the back of some tow trucks.
Enclosed car shipping, on the other hand, places the car inside a trailer with sides and a roof. Cars transported in this way are protected from the elements and from any errant object that might fly its way and give it a good dent. Enclosed car shipping also means that your car is either travelling by itself or with just a few other cars. On an open car carrier, your driver will be handling as many as 10 cars or more at a time.
Insurance for Transported Vehicles
When you transport a vehicle, you must have your own policy for that vehicle.
Additionally, our truck owners and drivers carry their own insurance— up to $250,000 in property coverage and $1,000,000 in liability coverage.
Car Transporters goes one step further, however, and also offers supplemental coverage known as ‘contingency insurance’ via Focus.
This policy can cover damage that may occur to your car during loading and unloading, as well as transport.
